WPE Online Journal

The WPE Journal (GE10A) is one of the courses offered by Silliman University under its General Education program and aims at holistic formation in students through activities that can earn a total of 40 points from five categories — Church, Classroom, Court, Cultural Center, and Community. It encourages out-of-the-box thinking, critical analysis, faithful Christian witness in the world, and purposeful communication and continued learning. The course incorporates the university's commitment to the values of service learning, wellness, volunteerism and institutional heritage. This equips students with the blend of academic disciplines and the Whole Person Education approach needed to embody what it means to become a well-rounded Silliman graduate.

The 5 Cs

Here’s a breakdown of the five categories:

  • The Church: Convocation, Mass, Bible Studies.
  • The Classroom: Lectures, Conferences, Workshops, Library.
  • The (Athletic) Court: Sporting Events, E-Sports tournaments.
  • The Cultural Center: Concerts, Events like Get Together parties.
  • The Community: Outreach activities, Tree planting, Distribution of White gifts.

What Are the 5 Cs?

The Classroom: The classroom is a major component of the “second home” of students. Silliman’s teaching encourages students to question prevailing concepts and theories, and integrate them into their daily lives.

The Church: Christian faith is central to Silliman education. There are various activities for faith nurture, education, worship, fellowship, and service throughout the year, open to students of all religious denominations.

The Cultural Center: Silliman stages five shows each semester to promote the arts. Students can enjoy performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists in the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.

The (Athletic) Court: Sports are vital at Silliman. The campus offers facilities for ball games, swimming, contact sports, and archery, and has produced Olympic athletes such as Mark Javier.

The Community: Service-learning and volunteerism are core to the university’s mission. Students engage in community-based projects in business, healthcare, legal management, and environmental advocacy.

Activity Guidelines

Each student is required to submit at least one proof per activity, which can be a certificate or photo. Each activity is worth 1 point, and no activity can be duplicated. Students are expected to creatively categorize their entries.

Journal entries must adhere to a specific format and be submitted online. The journal accounts for 50% of the course grade, and grading is based on involvement levels: lead organizer, member, and participant.

Title of the Activity: Jesus To Make A Difference Worship Live Concert
Date & Time of the Activity: August 31, 6:00-8:00 pm
Reflection:
On August 31, I went to the Jesus To Make A Difference Worship Live Concert at Silliman University Church from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. It was all about celebrating 20 years of the ministry and how God has been so faithful throughout. The whole vibe of the concert was uplifting and inspiring, and I was there as both a participant and a spectator. Honestly, being part of something like that, especially at Silliman, which already has so much pride and history, made it feel even more meaningful.

It made me realize how effective faith can be in connecting people, even if I didn't really learn any new skills. I thought that it would be just another worship concert, but it turned out to be much more intimate and emotional than I had anticipated. One of the speakers' accounts of overcoming hardship in the ministry had a profound impact on me. It caused me to reflect on my personal struggles and how my faith truly influences how I live. The worship was the most fulfilling aspect for me. There was this sense of peace and connection that felt so comforting it gave me a new perspective in my life that even though we have struggles sometimes it is really needed to take a much-needed break from all the things in our life. Honestly, I can’t think of anything I disliked about the activity.

This whole experience really made me appreciate how important it is to trust God, especially when it comes to using the talents He’s given us. If I could redo that activity, I would interact with the speakers and testimonies on a much deeper level, maybe by actively thinking about their stories or posing questions. In order to share the event's significance, I would also encourage other individuals to join me in experiencing it. It is an excellent approach to develop spiritually and join a group of people who have the same views and because of this I would really want to take part in worship sessions or other events they plan in the future.

Because of this activity, I am more strengthened in my faith and it encouraged me to trust God, and encouraged me to accept the blessings He has given me. It served as a reminder of the kind of person I want to be and the extent to which maintaining my relationship with Him may help me grow.

Title of the Activity: Kinaiya sa pag pasaylo
Date & Time of the Activity: September 4, 6:00-8:00 pm
Reflection:
On September 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, I attended the Kinaiya sa Pag Pasaylo event at Psalm Dumaguete. The evening centered around forgiveness, based on Genesis 50:20, a reminder that even when others may hurt us, God can turn it into something good. After a lengthy discussion, we separated into smaller groups, exchanged ideas and insights that we learned through the discussion, and ended the evening with a song sung with a guitar. Being in Dumaguete made the experience even more memorable because us locals treat one another like family.

My own life and that of others, as well as myself (had the experience), made me realize how important forgiveness really is. I’ve always thought that forgiving others is a big step, but what struck me is how much I need to forgive myself first. It's very easy to hold on to regrets or previous mistakes, and I frequently forget that letting go of them is just as crucial as forgiving other people. It was in this moment that I realized forgiveness must start on the inside. I need to let go the weight of guilt, unforgiveness, and self-blame. I wanted to forgive myself more regularly after that night, which ended up being more about it than it was about forgiving others. The most important part of the evening was the discussion we had regarding our difficulties.. Hearing others talk about how they’ve had to forgive themselves and move on made me reflect on how I hold myself back by not letting go of past mistakes.

I plan to stay involved by attending more Bible studies, group meetings, and contributing more to their conversations. I learned the important lesson from this incident that I am the first to forgive. I find it more difficult to forgive people if I can't forgive myself. I must constantly remind myself of this lesson because without self-forgiveness, I will never be able to move on from the past. I would spend more time considering my own desire for forgiveness and how it impacts my capacity to recover and develop if I could go back and change the experience.. I’d encourage others, too, to not only forgive those who have wronged them but also to show compassion for themselves. It’s easy to forget how important it is to be kind to ourselves in this process.

Because of this activity, I am reminded that forgiveness is a two-way street. It starts with understanding that God has already forgiven me, and now I need to embrace that forgiveness, especially for the mistakes I’ve made. It reminded me that if I want to truly grow, I have to release the guilt and shame I’ve been holding on to. Forgiveness doesn’t just heal relationships with others—it heals me as well. Because of this experience, I’m more committed to forgiving myself and letting go of past hurts so I can be free to forgive others as well. It’s a continual process, but I know it’s a vital part of growing in my faith and becoming the person I’m meant to be.

Title of the Activity: Psalm Fellowship The Book Of James The Series
Date & Time of the Activity: October 8, 6:00-8:00 pm
Reflection:
On October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, I went to the Psalm Fellowship at Psalm Dumaguete Freedom Park, where we explored the Book of James. The book's main lesson was to help us understand how important it is to obey God, especially while we are battling sin. It was an enlightening evening as I sat as both a participant and spectator, reflecting on how we tend to stray from God when we fall into sin, but how we must draw closer to Him to flee from the evil one.

I learned that night how crucial it is to keep obeying God no matter how many times we fail. I learned a great deal about the history of the Book of James and how it teaches us to act with obedience and trust, especially when we are tempted. A moment that stood out to me was during our small group discussion when one of the group members shared that he was struggling with lust and didn’t know how to overcome it. I told him that recognizing the problem is the first step towards solving it, and that if we practice self-control and have faith in God, we may begin to move forward. It was a life-changing event that made me more conscious of my own path and how I could help others on theirs. I spent the remainder of the evening with the realization that I could be a support system for someone who was having difficulties.

Following our conversation, we shared some snacks and sang a song on the guitar in a large circle to wrap up the session. I gained an appreciation for the strength that comes from sharing our successes and hardships, as well as the power of community. As a result of the experience, I would really love to do this again and learn more about myself and other perspectives of other people. I would really stay in touch with Psalm Dumaguete, especially their Bible studies and fellowships.

If I could do this again, I would take more time to listen and engage with others' stories on a deeper level, especially in our small group. I would also encourage more people to attend, as it’s a great opportunity to connect spiritually and reflect on God’s teachings in a safe and supportive environment.

Because of this activity, I am reminded of how important it is to stay close to God, especially in times of weakness. It strengthened my faith and encouraged me to continue trusting in God’s plan. It also made me realize the significance of supporting others in their struggles, as helping them through their challenges can bring us closer together in our faith. It served as a reminder of the kind of person I strive to be one who is compassionate, obedient, and always willing to grow closer to God.

Title of the Activity: Night of Worship and Healing
Date & Time of the Activity: November 1, 6:00-8:00 pm
Reflection:

On November 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, I attended the Night of Worship and Healing, organized by The Reach Church Parramatta. The evening was focused on worship, with many songs being sung and a crowd of people wholeheartedly praising God. The atmosphere was uplifting and filled with joy as everyone came together to celebrate and worship. While the songs weren’t particularly well known, they were heartfelt and powerful, making the experience feel special and meaningful.

The event got me thinking about how worship might help people get closer to God and to each other. The participants' enthusiasm and energy made the event more impactful than I had expected. The sight of so many people openly worshiping and interacting because of the music moved me and brought back memories of the joy of faith. One of the pleasures for me was seeing how worship united people and encouraged them to freely express their feelings. I felt a sense of harmony and unity especially when the singers sang on stage I can really see that they are really singing from their heart. The thought occurred to me as I explored the idea that music can serve as a means of connecting with God and alleviating stress.

It also helped me appreciate how much worship can help us connect with God in such a busy, overloaded world. If I were to do it again, I would think about the messages in the songs and how they relate to my life. I also think that similar events are a great way to get together and learn from one another as if they were my own spiritual practice.

My participation in future events and gatherings at The Reach Church Parramatta means that I'll be keeping in touch with this group. Participating worship, fellowship, and other activities with them would really strengthen my faith.

The Night of Worship and Healing served as a reminder for me to prioritize worshipping God, strengthening my faith. My chance to escape the grindstone of living has given me more than just music, it also allows me to focus on my worship needs. Because of this activity, I am motivated to attend additional worship services, not only for the music but also for their calming and invigorating qualities. It was a gentle reminder of the kind of person I want to become, one who is unwavering in their faith, grateful for God's favor, and willing to share His love.

Title of the Activity: First Sunday of November Mass Celebration
Date & Time of the Activity: November 3, 8:30-9:45 am
Reflection:

On November 3, from 8:30 to 9:45 AM, I attended the First Sunday of November Mass Celebration. The mass focused on the theme of keeping our faith in God and confessing to Him before judgment day, rather than waiting until it is too late. It encouraged reflection and spiritual readiness. After the mass, the school blessed the Mary statue and sent it out to visit parents and alumni's houses as part of a special celebration. It was a tradition that made this celebration so much more special.

The mass made me reflect on how my faith is a journey that requires constant care. The significance of the mass on Sunday, particularly in relation to spiritual readiness and confession, was beyond my expectations. I was reminded that faith is a journey only u and God could create and if you wait till judgement day to create that journey its too late.

I was motivated by this mass to stay committed to my faith. I would take some time to reflect on how i can be relevant to my spiritual journey, if I could go back. I also urge others, especially alumni, to join future masses or participate in the visitation ritual. The community can be sustained through these activities while maintaining a sense of unity.

ill also intend to continue assisting this group by always going to church their and staying connected with my alma mater because this is the school where i graduated high school from especially that we are friends with the priest in donbosco sometimes he checks up on me in messenger and we talk alot in donbosco if we see each other. Although I'm no longer at Donbosco, attending their Sunday services whenever they can offers me the chance to stay true to the values and be a part of their faith.

The First Sunday of November Mass Celebration was a reminder of the importance of confession, faith, and community. It encouraged me to keep God at the center of my life and inspired me to remain involved with this spiritual community that has been such a significant part of my journey in life. Because of this activity, I am acknowledged that the kind of person I strive to be i really strive to be faithful, connected, and always open to growing in my relationship with God.

Title of the Activity: UCLEM All-Colleges Midweek Convocation
Date & Time of the Activity: November 20, 6:30-7:30 pm
Reflection:

On November 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the evening, I went to the UCLEM All-Colleges Midweek Convocation, part of Silliman University’s Christian Life Emphasis Month (UCLEM). The theme for this year was “Conquering Life’s Giants” and the convocation was based on the word of God, particularly from the story of David and Goliath. It recalled to our minds all those moments where we feel like David, and did not know whether we could overcome adversaries but with faith and boldness we persevered. During the homily a teacher gave his testimony, he narrated his life giant, how he survived the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that he felt like he was gonna die in that moment but he never lose hope in God and just lived each day one step at a time.

This convocation helped me think about myself as standing before Giants and how I recognize them. Listening to the words of the teacher made the theme of ‘Defeating life’s giants’ really touching and nevertheless close to reality. His story enlightened me how faith can make a man dare to come out when all is in the state of fear. We have all faced challenges in our lives and as we see from the story of David we can ‘overcome them’ if we follow the Lord’s direction. The story between David and Goliath way beyond being a story from the bible is the reminder of living out the perception that no matter how big someone appears to be, faith is powerful than the giant we look at.

If I could repeat this activity, I would dedicate more time to thinking about my life giants and my experiences of how faith conquers them. I would also make an effort to engage more with others during the convocation, perhaps by sharing my thoughts or hearing more stories from others about their own experiences.

I plan to stay involved with UCLEM and similar events by attending future convocations and Christian gatherings at Silliman University. These activities help me stay grounded in my faith while connecting with others who share the same spiritual journey. By continuing to participate, I hope to strengthen my relationship with God and encourage others to face their own giants with faith and determination.

The UCLEM All-Colleges Midweek Convocation was a powerful reminder of how faith can help us overcome life’s biggest challenges. It inspired me to keep God at the center of my life and strengthened my commitment to trust Him in all circumstances. Because of this activity, I am reaffirmed the kind of person I want to be—faithful, resilient, and always ready to rely on God in the face of any giant.

Title of the Activity: Galilean Fellowship
Date & Time of the Activity: November 21, 5:30-7:00 pm
Reflection:

On November 21, from 5:30 till 7:00 PM, I went to the Galilean Fellowship. The theme was maintained at this year’s theme “Conquering Life’s Giants” and for the session, the story used was the story of David and Goliath. First, the facilitator defined the story at its background and its application in the dealing of fears as well as trusting in God’s might. A special activity includes when our small group facilitator brought a bag which we had to stretch our hand in representing the act of challenging our fears. We also dramatized the story of David and Goliath which helped us understand the lesson more as well as make us understand and appreciate the lesson better.

The fellowship brought home how more often than not, fear paralyzes us, but faith empowers us to confront the fear. When I put my hand in the bag, I was very much aware of what it meant to place my faith into the future even if fear grabs hold of my hand and tries to pull me back. The telling of David and Goliath story and the small group discussions enabled me to understand that the story applies to my life. It reminded me that no matter how big the hurdles in life maybe they can be overcome with faith.

I wish I could do it again, I could have spent more time discussing and focusing on positive things in one’s life alongside looking at the fears the other persons is attempting to conquer. I believe that is why listening to more personal narratives would make me understand how faith functions in their lives better. I would also engage in more group discussions so as to foster better acquaintance of the members in the fellowship.

My intention is to maintain my ongoing active participation of the Galilean Fellowship and other fellowships by participating on the next meetings and assisting in group related activities. Unlike seminars which can only open people spiritually, these fellowships offer companionship in a journey of faith that one may lack elsewhere.

Galilean Fellowship was a really nice fellowship, everyone was singing at the end all together hand in hand forming a big circle in the church made the gathering to feel more special due to the encouragement they place on gathering together as one through faith. Because of this activity, I was thought that this experience could teach me one thing When you feel the call to act in faith, never run from your fears but use the power of the Lord to overcome them. From the movie it affirmed me to put my full trust in God in all matters and encouraged me to be more faithful and fearlessly strong.

Title of the Activity: Culmination Worship UCLEM and Christmas Tree Lighting
Date & Time of the Activity: November 27, 6:00-7:30 pm
Reflection:

On November 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, I joined the Culmination Worship UCLEM and Christmas Tree Lighting at Silliman University for the Christian Life Emphasis Month (UCLEM). The event was equally a worship service, great testimonies, and the ritual lighting of the Silliman Christmas tree which made the event very special. This year the theme was “Conquering Life’s Giants,” which brought focus to those events telling us about the need to be steadfast in faith.

As for the segment of their worship, it left an impression which it is possible to define only as a deeply touching one. The music was soothing and had everyone come together to sing out and rejoice. The exercises of singing along the congregation helps me feel related with not only you people but with God as well. The fact that everyone believed in God and how other people went up to talk about their testimonies made the worship very, very special to say the least.

The stories told during the evening were emotional and empowering. The people on the stage spoke about the giants that they had in their lives. I remember one testimony that I saw; it was from one alumnus whose family store had been burnt. He narrated how he remained steadfast despite the calamity. He never stopped putting his faith in God. His strength of faith and trust in reestablishing his life after a tragedy made me realize that despite one’s losses in life, there is always a chance at rebuilding and healing.

At the end of the said event was the traditional lighting of the Silliman Christmas tree. As the lights came on in the tree, it seemed more like a signal of new life, and therefore encapsulating the messages of the event. The light of the tree was a strong symbol of the reason we stay alight in the situations and life’s of the world. It was a favorable time that made everyone happy and joyful in a way that made everyone heard the spirit of the season as well as the strength in faith.

As the lights came on the tree, it became a symbol of hope and the continuity of the message conveyed in the occasion. The light of the tree served as a constant visual, or a lasting symbol of the presence of God’s light in our life even in the midst of the so-called blackest of nights. This was a fantastic scene which promoted joy and encouraged people to work together and remember the main message of Christianity: we are strong in numbers.

On this event I remembered what giants I have in my life many times. It made me realize that worship, faith, and company can help you get through anything. I would have spent much of my time chatting with people around and listening to their stories since they all had lessons to teach.

I will try to join UCLEM yearly and always try to be a regular member of worship and other faith-based practices at Silliman University. I am greatly benefited not only spiritually because these meetings also allow me to fellowship and affiliate myself with like-minded people.

The worship service for the Culmination Worship UCLEM and Christmas Tree Lighting was an eye-opener through which I realized the need to fully trust in God. From worship, testimonies, and tree lighting impacts me positively making me bed full of hope. As I confront my giants, Because of this activity, I am more reminded that no matter how powerful the opposition is, I should not waver in my faith, and happiness of being part of the faith-filled community who celebrates God’s faithfulness in our lives.

Title of the Activity: NSTP Orientation
Date & Time of the Activity: August 17, 6:00 am
Reflection:

On August 17, at 6:00am I reported to the NSTP ORIENTATION held at SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY. We learned about the National Service Training Program (NSTP) this is mandatory for students in Filipino colleges to take with the primary purpose of instilling civic responsibility. The orientation focused on the three NSTP tracks In the past these are called, ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), LTS (Literacy Training Service), and CWTS (Civic Welfare Training Service). Apparently, each track is meaningful ROTC stresses on a national defense program, LTS is oriented on literacy and numeracy education, CWTS is connected with the realization of the community welfare projects.

During this Orientation, I was a mere member of the audience as the facilitating team made sure that we grasped different objectives of every track. Every program demonstrated that they have the ability to produce responsible and active citizens, it was evident from the orientation. I did not acquire any new skill in this aspect, but I got value in form of greater appreciation of the concepts of civil responsibility and how every track leads to character transformation and development.

My expectation in the begining were to understand the essentials of the program but what was fascinating me was how NSTP played a role in nation building. Of course, the fact that practical working experience is recognized as an important and unique advantage have also made me particularly happy about this kind of session, as the program is not about mere obligation but rather about the ability to make a positive change for the community.

The most constructive to me was that the facilitators provided their own experiences about the execution of every track, which brought personal connection to the significance of the program. From them, I admired there commitment and passion towards providing service and leadership. It was good to be challenged on issues of contribution to community, which is an important aspect that I attend to all the time as an individual with service motives.

I can also go on serving the NSTP group by participating in the ROTC program. I have reason to attend all the sessions to ensure I am part of leadership and training activities. Staying committed to the job will help me grow more disciplined and more of a leader at the same time, getting others involved and motivated to do so with understanding the relevance and significance of the program. I believe that maintaining communication with the other participant will enable me to immerse myself fully in my role, as well as become a responsible citizen.

Because of this activity, I am more committed to being an active citizen, participating in the NSTP, and embracing my responsibility to contribute positively to society.

Date & Time of the Activity: August 19, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Reflection:

On August 19, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, I have joined the Freshman Orientation Guidance and Counseling Group Dynamics Activity conducted in Silliman University. The main area this event covered was familiarizing us with the *Computer Studies Department, identifying our guidance counselor. Its purpose was to increase socialization and knowledge between us, and to give a glimpse into the academic and emotional assistance offered during our college years. They also used an introduction as they sought to explain the function of the guidance counseling system and how it assists students to overcome obstacles in college.

Some of the activities that I participated in as a group were activities that were all geared towards creating the spirit of togetherness and work on our communication skills. A couple of group activities I enjoyed were unique fun-filled activities, one of which involved our forming various shapes all along with our eyes closed and holding on to a string arranged in a circular form. This group dynamics game made me learn how to solve problems with other members of my small group without having a glance at each other. It was really cool and entertaining that helped me not only to understand teamwork with our new classmates, but also to have a good time.

At first, I wanted to know more about the Computer Studies Department and get to know my classmates. However, what impressed me most was the group activity. We really had a great time bonding, and I was taken aback at how these connections (and that is all they are in the beginning) can develop so fast through such an engaging and fun activity. I thought it was much fun, and besides, it made me realize that no project can really succeed without the cooperation of the team. Because of this activity, I am more motivated to engage with my classmates, collaborate in group tasks, and take full advantage of the support and resources available through the guidance counseling program.

Date & Time of the Activity: August 19, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Reflection:
The Miller Solutions Development Inc. Industry Lecture: “Designing Intuitive User Experience: Key UI/UX Strategies held on August 22, 2024, from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning at the ATA Hall, Silliman University was a event that is designed to explain the UI/UX approaches and give tips to the freshmen students especially those who opted for computer related courses. I watched as a member of the audience together with my classmates from the Information Technology program. Even though I did not get to know a new skill, what I got to know was how to create an good user interface. At first, I thought the lecture was going to be simply about how a website looked and while that element was covered, I slowly began to realize that the appearance of the user interface of a website, so that they can have a comfortable experience, was a major factor as well. The activity shocked me as I now understood how much UI/UX design is needed, and how they changed my view on creativity in software development. She did a good job of holding the audience’s attention during the discussion as a speaker. I really appreciated them teaching us ways that what we can apply to be more confident to use our computers. The greatest benefit was that I managed to acquire proven information on this subject, and it was fascinating to me for being an IT student. One of the lessons I learnt from this experience is that usability as well the appeal of the software design is something I should consider any time I will be developing software in the future. That is how I can keep engaged with this group is by attending similar activities and checking on their progress. As a result of this activity, am informed of the following key strategies in the UI/UX design. I also make it my goal to ensure users of my programs are to have a positive experience through enhancements, work on layouts and listen to some criticisms. I will use this knowledge in developing a software that is not only easier to work with but which will have a better appeal to the eye of the coming user.

Reflection:
On September 11, at Silliman University from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We had the University Wide Orientation which I participated in. It was a very fun and exciting event and what I recall most probably because of the impact that the Tula-Dula Performance. It had different actors for the characters and the one I found rather interesting was an Australian actor. He acted well and comedically.

Later, there was an orientation about the Safe Spaces Act and other topics that followed the performance. I thought this part of the event was educational and helped me learn more about why it is necessary to know about this and how it helps to build a protected area of Campus. I saw how crucial it is to recognize everyone’s boundaries and create an environment in Silliman where everyone would be comfortable.

I had a great experience for which I can remember the event and the kind of fun that was exhibited during the occasion. I expected a normal orientation, but with the Tula-Dula and the energy from the actors and actresses gave off, I’d say it was fun. It was really useful for me because it gave me the warmer feeling to the university and to the college years ahead.

Because of this activity, I am more enthusiastic in joining other related university activities and being aware of the programs that this university has. It was interesting as it has encouraged me to be proactive as an advocate towards and respect for the principles that foster the rights culture for vulnerable groups and minorities.

Reflection:
On October 3, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, I went to Robinsons Place Dumaguete to see the Regional Science, Technology & Innovation Week 2024. For this event, I got to know about research projects of students especially those from Foundation University. Through their findings regarding robotics and even demonstrating their coded robots I was really amazed on what they were capable of. I also came to know how these students used technology knowledge to design functional robots which gave me a knowledge about the implementational view of Robotics in different fields.

The part that impressed me the most was a robot trailing a dark strip that they drawn before on the ground. Seeing how the robot is following the path of the line was great and it demonstrated how precise their coding as well as construction was. Not only did the students show how their robots function but also the logical reasoning behind them that the coding reflects. This actually enlightened me more on the significance of innovation in technology and how robotics can help to develop severable fields. I was the first time impressed by the high level of skill and knowledge that these students possessed especially since I am a first year IT student it amazed me so much more, which highlighted the fact that there is still a far way to go in the technological front.

At first, I would think that it would be like a normal a conference where one speaks in front of an audience and makes presentations and what not, but the robots were a bonus. The activity of the students presenting their work also boosted my enthusiasm into the processing of making the presentations. Organizing the event gave me much food for thought regarding potential developments in robotics and the potential of the knowledge that I can gain at the university to contribute to such development. To remain a part of these kinds of activities, I would like to maintain the connections with the organizations which are involved in such activity. I shall check their socials like Facebook, Twitter or through email to know of any next activities or projects in the field of robotics and technology.

Because of this activity, I am more motivated to explore robotics and technology further. I feel encouraged to pursue research and development projects in the future, knowing that innovation is at the core of technological progress. The experience has inspired me to be more proactive in my learning and to seek out opportunities to contribute to the field of science and technology.

Date & Time of the Activity: October 9, 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Reflection:
On October 9, from 3:30 - 5:30 PM I attended the SU CCS Intramurals Tryouts Orientation & Briefing 2025. In this session, we talked about how to prepare for the intramurals, from the circulation guidelines, to how to train the students, how to introduce tryouts, and the expenses relating to the sports equipment that would be required. I just had to appreciate at how early we are in planning for the event, given that the intramurals are set to happen next year. It was very impressive to see how ahead of time our department is and how much we plan in advance. As much as this taught me that we are a very competitive department, it is an honor to be part of the Computer Studies Sport Committee.

This orientation opened me to another prospect of getting ahead in planning events rather than waiting until the event is around the corner. What I personally liked was that they were already preparing for the intramurals such a long time in advance. What really strikes me is how much effort and passion our team strives to ensure that everything is arranged to perfection. I consider myself lucky to be part of the sports committee of this school to be able to work with this efficient team that has the goal of improving the intramurals and I wish to stay part of this committee for years.

Due to this, I feel challenged more to be part of the planning and implementation process of future events to happen. Today, I feel so motivated to be part of a team that works so hard to ensure that the sport events run well and successfully. I am looking forward to the intramurals to happen soon and eagerly waiting to do whatever I could for the completion.

Because of this activity, I am more motivated to be involved in the planning and execution of future events. It’s inspiring to be a part of such a driven group, and it encourages me to continue working hard and staying committed to the success of the sports events. I am excited for the upcoming intramurals and looking forward to contributing to its success in any way I can.

Date & Time of the Activity: November 23, 7:30 am - 9:00 am
Reflection:
On November 23, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM, I was able to be present at the Orientation on the Safe Spaces Act. This activity involved both the CWTS, LTS and ROTC students and we convened to receive an informative talk regarding the Safe Spaces Act as well as how to use our student manual. At this session, I was able to grasp the measures to applying the approach to make the environment safer for everyone and it was quite informative for me.

The aspect that impressed me the most was when one of the speakers said that most women cannot walk at night without being harassed. This statement impressed me and certainly made me realize how many people experience the safety issues to some extent. I found the information about the Safe Spaces Act and the protection it provides to people from harassment and violence. This talk was interesting because it made me value this law and recognize it as a weapon that can help to create safer environment for all individuals. I am now more passionate about attending more orientations on this topic in order to keep updating myself by gaining more knowledge on how to reduce dangers around our environment.

Because of this activity, I am more aware of the challenges people face in terms of safety and harassment. I am motivated to contribute to making my school environment a safer place, not only for myself but for others as well. The talk has inspired me to be more proactive in ensuring that everyone feels safe and respected within our community.

Title of the Activity: Photography Lecture
    Date & Time of the Activity:Dec 4, 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Reflection:
On December 4, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM I watched a Photography Lecture. The Push through for this lecture was done at Silliman University and facilitated by a professional photographer who was once interviewed by CCN Philippines and has articles to his credit. The principal topic that was under discussion in the session was about light as the source in the photographing since the lecturer takes only natural light pictures. I think that this lecture help me open a new way how to imagine photography and how important a light is for good picture.

Lecturer also discussed the role of light in photography showing how different quantity and quality of light changes the overall mood of the picture. He also and spoke to us about his own experiences and emphasized especially on the usage of the appropriate natural light.

I finally understood how important light is in the process of photographing to get excellent results. When I signed up for this blog, my expectations were to find out more about photography in general, or at least the different kinds of natural lighting that could be used for the photographs but the session focused so much on natural lighting. This made me think about photography in a different way and how i can set up more shots with natural light.

I was impressed by the direct engagement of the lecturer presumably engaged in natural light photography. One can only imagine working like this, adoring his attitude about utilizing only natural light in the process. What I appreciated from the experience was the fact that a good number of photos captured art and nature. What I found most satisfying as part of the lecture was the simple understanding of how the kind of lighting could transform the nature of the photo entirely and for the best. This experience has expanded my understanding of photography and made me realize how much more I can learn about capturing great moments. It encouraged me to explore photography more deeply, specifically focusing on light and how it shapes images. I plan to continue attending similar workshops and lectures to develop my skills further.

Because of this activity, I am more motivated to practice photography and experiment with different lighting techniques to enhance my photos.

Date & Time of the Activity: August 19, 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Reflection:
On August 19, from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the Lamberto L. Macias Sports & Cultural Complex the Silliman University Men’s Volleyball Team was involved in a game against COSCA team and Silliman University Alumni. The audience comprised students who came from Negros Oriental to watch us perform our game. The purpose of the session was to competently prove ourselves as a team and to strengthen the communication between us.

As a player in the Silliman University Men’s Volleyball Team, I really wanted to help my team win a game using all my strength to add to the strengths of my other teammates. This activity helped me enhance some of my team work and coordination skills. What I particularly learned during the game was related to trust, communication, and flexibility within a team.

At first, I thought we will just have a fun game and there won’t be much competition, but the moment we played against the COSCA team that changed. They were tough looking they were very tall and very skillful in the game but we were able win against them. The victory over such an opponent in the first game was very satisfying and encouraging. What I could notice clearly was how good the COSCA team was despite the fact that they lost. It was great to learn from their strong spirits of sportsmanship and professional demeanor that challenged me to work harder all the while learning the importance of competition. The most enjoyable aspect of the activity was the fact that we actually won against COSCA, due to commitment and group efforts. Through this activity, my values of perseverance, teamwork, and determination were expressed. The experience made me more aware of how preparation and trust in my teammates contribute to success. This event has positively affected my worldview, teaching me that challenges can be overcome with hard work and unity. I plan to apply this learning by continuing to train and work with my team to achieve our goals. To stay involved, I will actively participate in team practices, games, and future tournaments. This activity benefits me by improving my skills, fostering friendships, and enhancing my confidence. If I could redo this experience, I would focus more on strategy and preparation for facing strong opponents. Because of this activity, I am more motivated to pursue excellence in volleyball, strengthen my teamwork, and represent my school with pride.

Date & Time of the Activity: August 27, 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Reflection:
On August 27, from 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM at Silliman High School, we played against the Silliman varsity Alumni. Every varsity player returned to play or to watch and greet each other. It was really fun because there was a 90s graduate that went, the Japanese player who is now really old watched us play and afterward gave us some life advice. You can really see how volleyball is universal from high school students who are still teenagers to those who are already working. Perhaps it really hit me this time how inclusive volleyball is to have strangers from different ages, ethnicity, and culture come together.

The aim of this activity was really to catch up with former players, strengthen the team's bond and receive tips on life and careers from them. I did not acquire a new skill, but personal values that are typical for a sport, as well as understandings that brought the team closer together. To begin with, I thought it was going to be a casual event, more like a friendly competition and it proved to be a more surprising event. The advice offered by the older alumnus, especially coming from someone of different backgrounds, was rather unexpected and effective.

The Japanese alumnus from the 90s had the most impact on the entire event for me. His person and advice were really worth remembering. I also appreciated one aspect of the event, the spark, unity, and common passion in people of different ages who gathered for volleyball. It was challenging to play against such well-oriented rivals, however, such a task was rather interesting because it encouraged us to work as a team and to start developing our abilities even more. Through this activity, I expressed values of perseverance, teamwork, and respect for others, especially the alumni. The experience has widened my worldview, teaching me that dedication and hard work are recognized and valued across different cultures. I plan to apply this learning by continuing to train hard and support my teammates.

To stay involved, I will actively participate in team practices, games, and future alumni events. This activity benefits me by improving my skills, fostering friendships, and enhancing my confidence. If I could redo this experience, I would focus more on strategy and preparation for facing strong opponents. Because of this activity, I am more motivated to pursue excellence in volleyball, strengthen my teamwork, and represent my school with pride and always stay humble no matter what.

Date & Time of the Activity: September 28-29, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Reflection:
On September 28-29, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 AM, The Silliman University Men’s Volleyball Team competed for the Bayawan Mayor’s Cup Open Volleyball Tournament (Men’s). This was actually our first open tournament which was held in Bayawan. This was an interesting and fun trip personally; we faced everyday challenges like sleeping on the floor of an elementary school and showering with a hose. Though we did not win any games, we spent plenty of time there, and that was a good thing as I learned plenty of stuff. From it, we realized that no matter how good we are, someone else is still out there greater than us and that really pushed us to strive to greater heights.

The event was a two consecutive day event on the 28th and 29th of September at the Bayawan sports complex in Bayawan. The purpose of the tournament was to play at the open level and increase the opportunities to practice and improve our team cooperation. Although no new skills were acquired, I benefited greatly in terms of organizational behavior. At first, I thought it would be competitive, but I did not fully understand how tiring it would be in terms of waking up, eating, then playing, then going back to sleep, then eating, then playing again. These experiences shocked me and revealed a different side of going into sports for a competition level.

It changed my views in many ways, for example, teamwork from members of the same group as well as the perseverance of all the participants. I was impressed with one of my teammates who always seemed to stay happy even though we kept on losing. The best aspect was probably the relationship we built with each other; the worst was when we lost the games.

The values of perseverance, teamwork, and determination were gained from this activity. Participation in this competition really helped me to gain exposure and learn ways and means of achieving success, ways of effective self-organization in the places we stayed to ways of trying to win. I’d like to use what I learned by training harder and lending even more support to my fellow teammates.

For me to remain in touch with this group, I will be sure to attend all future practice sessions and games as well as future tournaments. I claim that this should be a benefit because it helps me to develop skills, make friends, and get used to overcoming obstacles. There is nothing much I would change, but if I could it would be to try and come up with better strategies when playing the games. Because of this activity, I am more passionate towards my excellence in volleyball, improvement of teamwork in the team, and pride to be part of the school team.

Title of the Activity: CCS Intramurals Tryouts
Date & Time of the Activity: October 13, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Reflection:
On October 13, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, we, the CCS Sports committee, did our yearly tryouts for the Silliman University Intramurals next year. Organizing tryouts for our volleyball intramural team was an important task I agreed to help with since I was the assistant coach and considering the fact that I am part of the varsity team. Many people being engaged and loving the sport was very inspiring. During my time, I was able to assist our main volleyball coach in choosing players for our intramurals team. This task was a little tough because most people were very tall during the tryouts, including some who were even taller than me and I am 6 feet tall. This was rather shocking because, in Dumaguete, it seems very rare to have many tall players. It just made me happy to see our department has the tallest players, and we just have to improve on their training.

These tryouts were held at the Elementary Court in Silliman University where students who wanted to join the volleyball team came to participate. The purpose of the tryouts was mainly to screen and recruit talented players this year for the intramurals team. The main responsibility I had was to provide the main coach with information about every player’s ability and possibility of improvement. I was tasked to list their name, weight, height, and position, etc. Other members of the sports committee were also engaged in planning events for different sports so that our intramurals next year would really be a success.

Except for the technical aspect of learning a new skill, I got the experience of how to evaluate players and familiarize myself with various approaches to training. To begin with, I thought I was going to be part of an easy trial but found myself surprised when I saw so many talented and towering players. This changed my expectation and also made the selection more competitive, interesting, and challenging. I can remember having been impressed by one tall individual who played well; he was 6'4", I think. He was always full of energy and uplifting, which was really encouraging. During tryouts, I enjoyed that, but for the final decision about the players, the competition was stiff, and I had a hard time deciding.

That’s why, in the course of this activity, the main organizational values such as teamwork, equity, and commitment really played a big part. It helped me to expand my skills in coaching and talent selection. I found out that all players should be given equal playtime and the need to constantly try out for the team. It really demonstrated how coaching a team wasn’t easy. My future plan is to advance as a coach and be more useful for the team as it was mentioned in the learning.

For further interaction with this group, I will listen more to my own coach to gain more knowledge about coaching, especially during practices, and I will take an active part in organizing training sessions and in playing games to learn more about the sport I love. I would also enhance my leadership and coaching skills. If I could do this project again, I would pay more attention to the organization of drills, which would enable showing the strengths and weaknesses of players better.

Because of this activity, I am more spirited to develop my coaching skills to give back to the department's successes in our volleyball program.

Title of the Activity: Dumaguete Triathlon 2024
Date & Time of the Activity: November 10, 6:00 am - 11:00 am
Reflection:
On November 10, from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM, I got the chance to see the Dumaguete Triathlon 2024. This was particularly interesting because I was able to see participants push themselves within different spirits ranging from swimming 10k, cycling 40k, and running 21k. I particularly noticed and considered how cool it was seeing my friend competing and getting rewarded by his school for his achievement. I felt immense pride for him. It also amazed me that in triathlons, people of all ages train and participate in the event and that anyone can participate in such a hard event.

The swim was held at the Dumaguete City Boulevard, the bike segment finished at Dumaguete downtown, and the run at the provincial capitol grounds. The goal of the event was to exercise, make public participation, and develop good sportsmanship. The leaders, workers, and other helpers performed great tasks to support and help the main organizers during the event by guiding directions, providing food and beverages, and even first aid.

While I was not able to gain a new skill in the process, I believe that the process was valuable as a learning experience as it brought into perspective the amount of commitment that is often needed when training for endurance sports. At first, I thought that the event was really challenging for the participants and hardened me a bit, but seeing the participants overcoming and the support of the community is inspiring. The one thing that I found quite shocking from the footage was some of the elderly people competing in the triathlon.

One of the participants that would stick out in my mind was an old man very determined to complete the triathlon with great energy. His passion as well as attitude were inspirational. The biggest pleasure I had was watching my friend finish a triathlon race and be rewarded for it. The hardest thing to watch was that I saw some people trying hard and still failing, but that also shows us that determination is key.

That is why the values reflected in this activity are determination, support, and community. I learned that no age is too old or background too low to score big things in life. In order to apply this learning, I have decided to promote such events and motivate more people to take part in them.

In order to stay with the triathlon community in the future, I will volunteer for a triathlon, perhaps in a local event, and begin to organize it, as well as spread the word about it in my school. All these are made possible by undertaking this activity to see the significance of fitness, community, and perseverance over and over again. If I could do this project again, I would highlight the volunteering component, and maybe I would even try to train to participate myself. Because of this activity, I am more motivated to develop physical fitness, support my communities, and encourage myself to strive for other higher grounds.

Reflection:
The 5th Sunshine Cup 2024, held on November 9-10 from 12:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Angtay Golf Field, was an amazing and vibrant experience. As anticipated, there were many male and female players who attended the event with the main aim of demonstrating their talents and skills in the field. My role in the activity was to support my girlfriend; she was a player competing in the tournament among the players and coaches.

From this competition, despite not having any technical skills in soccer, I got an opportunity to understand the dynamics of a sports tournament and the effort that goes into preparing for the tournament as well as during the tournament. At first, I expected the event to be more casual, but as the games progressed, I saw that the teams were actually competitive. The coaches practiced intense competitiveness and brought their players to do the same, therefore making the event all the more thrilling. What has left me shocked most was how the teams showed their teamwork, especially when they were going really hard.

I remember one particular intense individual who was struggling with his team, yet you would never hear him complain or provide anything but uplifting words to his players. The experience actually enlightened me on aspects of leadership, especially when he fails to focus sometimes, he never stops putting in effort to strive to win. The best thing for me in the event was seeing my girlfriend play the game, as well as seeing how passionate the players are. The most challenging aspect was the weariness and stress on the athletes, which makes me appreciate the athleticism they have.

The values I observed were support, teamwork, and perseverance. Seeing the players and the coaches having such a close connection, I realized that no matter what the job or performance anybody does, one has to work hard and have teamwork. This has also made me realize that soccer, like any other sport, is not merely a game but also a personal development game that increases discipline, strengthens the spirit, and brings togetherness. I can use this learning in any capacity by still being there in the support of athletes and teams in whatever they engage in, sports or otherwise.

For further participation with the group, I took an active part in future events of the group, supported the players and coaches, and perhaps assisted in organizing similar tournaments. Looking at this activity, I perceived the positive results that come with it, such as social bonding, personality development, and health enhancement. In this case, I would have liked to have been more engaged. Even though I thought that simply attending was the best I could do, I might have helped to set up the occasion or helped the players more proactively.

Because of this activity, I am more encouraged to be an active member of the soccer community, in any way engage and support those who are passionate about sports and anyone who strives so desperately to make competitive sports a reality in their lives.

The Freshie Walk, that was held on August 15, 12:45 - 4:25 pm held by the Silliman University Student Government, was participated in by 15 departments of the college to welcome the upcoming freshmen. The event aimed to boost school spirit and unity through a march, activities, and performances. Freshmen participated in the event and engaged in various activities. While I didn’t completely understand the excitement at first, I began to appreciate the enthusiasm and the sense of being together as a department. The most shocking thing was being compelled to dance in front of the stage. While it was embarrassing, I ended up enjoying it and socializing too.

This experience taught me how such events foster unity and community. The joy of watching people enjoy themselves was the best part, and it was challenging yet rewarding as I got out of my comfort zone. The values I gained from the activity were a sense of being part of a community and courage. I discovered that one needs to challenge oneself in order to grow.

In order to remain involved, I intend to attend more celebrations and support school spirit. I now understand how events like this create memorable experiences and bonds. In the future, I plan to take a more active part in such events and be more enthusiastic right from the start.

The One Big Tuyok that was held on August 16, 8:45 - 9:30 am was a campus tour where students were taken through different buildings on campus, with explanations of their uses and services. The aim was to help students locate places within the institution and understand the various units. As a freshman, I participated in the event by observing and exploring the buildings. One surprising aspect was how separated the nursing and doctor buildings were. It helped open my eyes to the commitment of students and faculties in those areas of specialization.

The best aspect of the tour was getting to know the campus better. The worst aspect, however, was that the tour occurred after we had already started attending classes. On the first day of class, I found it difficult to locate my classroom, as we didn’t have the tour earlier. Despite this, the tour helped me understand the value of how disciplined medical students are. It also gave me a narrative about effectively utilizing campus resources and appreciating how different departments within the university operate.

I will likely continue to participate in similar events in the future because they promote awareness of campus life. This particular tour was useful in helping students navigate the campus more easily. To apply what I’ve learned, I plan to take more time locating buildings and departments and ask questions to improve my knowledge.

Because of this activity, I am more aware of the campus environment and the commitment of the various programs at Silliman University.

The Parada Sillimaniana 2024 that was held on August 26, 2:00 - 5:00 pm was a colorful and exciting event where we Sillimanians showcased the beauty of Silliman. My classmates and I walked through the streets, proudly representing our university. Some of us were tasked with carrying water to our department’s dancers and the viewers. We walked all the way to the Silliman University Cimafranca Ballfield, where different college departments and organizations performed during a thrilling dance battle. During the walk, I noticed the judges at Lee Plaza, so we made sure to give our loudest cheers to support our department.

What struck me most was the energy that surrounded the event. It felt more like a contest of pride, with each department showcasing their spirit and unity. There were a surprising number of people who came to watch and cheer on the participants. The quality of the dance showdown was impressive, and I was particularly moved by one dancer who performed a solo in front of the The part I liked most about the experience was seeing the unity within our department. It was rewarding to see how people stepped up and contributed to the success of the event. The pride and sense of belonging in each department were truly uplifting. This experience also highlighted the importance of embracing cultural events at school to bring students together.

I plan to stay engaged by participating in future activities and encouraging teamwork in all our endeavors. I’ve learned the significance of these events in building school spirit and unity, and I will apply this by taking a more active role in future functions.     Date & Time: September 21, 1:00 - 2:00 pm
Reflection:The tour around the SU Campus that was held on September 21, 1:00 - 2:00 pm, was an engaging experience where we had the time to ask questions and look around, getting to know interesting facts about all the buildings in the area. The tour focused on the lore of Silliman University, explaining why certain structures were built and the history that influenced their construction. I particularly enjoyed the visit to the last and first sites, the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium, which is designed like a boat due to Dumaguete’s history with boats and pirates. What interested me most was the story of the auditorium’s connection to the first Miss Silliman and the eerie tales of hearing her footsteps in the building.

The guide’s choice of buildings and her deep knowledge about their significance made me understand the campus better. Although I didn’t acquire new skills during the tour, the experience broadened my knowledge of the university’s history and culture. Initially, I thought a campus tour would just be a simple walk through the campus, observing various structures. However, I quickly realized it was much more interesting and informative as we explored the historical backgrounds of the buildings.

The tour completely changed my perspective on the university’s history. One thing that amazed me was the amount of attention given to preserving the history and narratives of the university. The tour guide’s passion and interactivity also made the experience enjoyable, as she genuinely loved sharing the history with us.

This activity gave me a deep respect for history and a sense of cultural heritage. It made me realize the importance of knowing the histories and stories tied to the locations we inhabit. I learned that buildings and spaces can convey significant cultural and historical messages, beyond their practical functions.

To stay connected with this group, I could join other campus activities in the future or even educate new students about the history of the university. I find this activity useful because it helps us focus on the culture and significance of our university. If I were to take the tour again, I think it would be exciting to include more stories, perhaps from students or alumni, to enrich the experience.

Because of this activity, I am now more informed about the historical background and cultural values of the university I attend. This has helped me develop a richer understanding of the institution where I am learning.

    Date & Time: August 31, 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Reflection:
On August 31, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Foundation University community went to Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City for the annual celebration of Dal-uy Festival. This cherished tradition involves students releasing lighted lanterns with their messages written on them into the sea, followed by a fireworks display. Close to 5,000 members, from different sectors including students, faculty, staff, and alumni, sent messages in the form of lanterns bearing prayers for success and world peace. Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo extended his words of congratulation to the Foundation University President Dean Sinco and the entire university community for continuing this tradition.

It was quite impressive to watch how many lanterns gleamed in the sea, and seeing some of my classmates from previous schools light some of the lanterns really made me cherish the festival more as well. This simply added another dimension to the event and made the whole experience very personal. Although I was not able to acquire a new skill, I got an opportunity to understand how cultures work and the fact that they bring people together.

At first, I assumed that the event was going to be just a meeting. But I was positively impressed with how cultured the festival was. Seeing as many lanterns that symbolized hopes and dreams was quite inspirational.

It helped me change my views, and I learned a lot of values through that event, especially on ethnicity and culture of the community. One of the people who impressed me was a faculty member describing the meaning of the festival to the students. The most enjoyable aspect of the activity was seeing lanterns float in the water, indicating oneness with each other as well as having similar goals. The experience enriched me personally by making me realize how traditions help people to unite and give them an idea of all inclusiveness.

In order not to lose connection with this group of people, I will keep attending the Dal-uy Festivals and other events in this university and encourage these celebrations. The implication of this activity is quite clear, as it brings a sense of unity as well as creates hope.

Because of this activity, I am more in touch with different cultures here in Dumaguete and value the programs that make me feel more united.

Title of the Activity: Buglasan Folk Dance Competition and Balitaw Competition
    Date & Time: October 22, 6:00 - 10:00 pm
Reflection:
On October 22, from 6:00 - 10:00 pm, I watched the Buglasan Folk Dance and Balitaw Competition. This event was aimed at youth where the children dance various folk dances. In this type of activity, I was in a position of a member of the audience who was waiting for the participants to perform and supporting them. The major purpose of the event was to share and revive Filipino culture, specifically in folk dance, and give youthful talents the opportunity to dance.

Though I didn’t learn something new, I really had a great experience understanding how the Filipino perceived culture, especially dancing. At first, I assumed that I would not face any problems while watching the event and then there was the power outage that almost delayed the event for one full hour. The organizers acted quickly by calling NORECO II.

I was impressed with the event, especially when the young group dancers balanced glasses on their heads. This demonstrated discipline and commitment, which were values I was glad to leave with a pleasant image of. The constructed activity was the most fulfilling because seeing the joy and pride of the participants as they danced despite the early stumble of a power outage amazed me.

The values expressed in this activity were cultural values, optimism, and support of people. This made me learn that we need to embrace cultural practices and also made me understand that the events which are culturally related are very important in building unity and pride in the people.

In order to stay with this group, I can participate in the next Buglasan festivals and promote cultural activities of my community. Because of this activity, I have learned to value my culture better and have been encouraged by young talented dancers.

Title of the Activity: Inter-LGU Modern Street Dance Competition
    Date & Time: October 24, 6:00 - 10:00 pm
Reflection:
The Inter-LGU Modern Street Dance Competition held on October 24 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm was an exciting occasion where different dances from different municipalities of Negros Oriental were presented. These groups were often in a pushing match against the other to determine who was the best, and one thing was for certain: the level of experience and coordination showed on a competitive level. I liked it so much and was really amazed with the backflips and how synchronized the dancers were.

In the activity, my contribution was purely as a spectator, and even though I was just a spectator, I watched eagerly. The event really offered young dancers an opportunity to showcase their talents and dance competitively in a friendly and lively atmosphere.

Although I did not acquire a new skill myself, watching the dancers made me understand how groups work, how disciplined one should be, and the need for practice. At first, I thought it was going to be fun, but I was surprised at how talented everyone was, and the strong performance really put me into a competitive spirit while I was watching.

There was one group that I vividly found impressive regarding a creative dancing pattern and perfect coordination. They received high appreciation for not only the difficult moves but also the charisma on stage and the happiness they shared with others. They showed a lot of facial expressions, making their dance much more immersive for viewers like me. The most difficult part was the feeling of waiting during the short breaks between performances; all I wanted was to see more.

The values expressed in this event were mostly the support of the community, the art, and the encouragement of the youths. It made me realize the diversification within us through talent presentation and recognize cultural differences. I also learned that dedication and thorough cooperation were big factors.

In order to maintain my associations with this group, I will watch more Buglasan events. If I were to do the project again, I would like to be more engaged, for example, be tasked with handling some of the event schedules or join a dancing group.

Because of this activity, I am more grateful for the talents in my community and eager to attend local cultural events.

Title of the Activity: Buglasan Miss Negros Oriental Pageant and Coronation Night
    Date & Time: October 26, 8:00 - 11:00 pm
Reflection:
The Buglasan Miss Negros Oriental Pageant and Coronation Night, held on October 26 from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at the Micias Sports Complex, was a colorful and lively event. The hall was full of people from other municipalities who came to support their representative. There appears to be a lot of support, and the crowd made it feel like this was a big thing for Negros Oriental.

When the event was starting, the anticipation was increasing, and the noise of the crowd grew louder and louder. The representatives began with the introduction dance, then they showed in their swimwear and their gown wear. After that was the question and answer part. I only observed the activity and cheered people on throughout the process. I was supporting the representative from Valencia together with my girlfriend, and it made me extremely involved in the process since I felt that I, myself, was engaged in the process.

Even though there is no new skill that I managed to learn, the experience was quite fulfilling. At first, I thought it was just a beauty pageant, but the crowd had lots of energy, the contestants had a lot of passion, and were very confident. This aspect enlightened me particularly because the level of support from the municipalities for each of the contestants demonstrated the common cord and unity of the people of Negros Oriental.

I can at least point out Miss Valencia with her winning answer, who impressed me in the best possible way during the question and answer portion of the show. I noticed her exemplary professionalism when she had to defend her ideas. The most enjoyable aspect of the event was seeing the winner, Miss Valencia herself, crowned. Both my girlfriend and I were so happy to see her win.

This activity resonated with my beliefs in supporting community talent, encouraging talent in society, and how cultural activities help to build unity, especially in our community here in Negros Oriental. The event educated me on the integration of Negros Oriental, where the people, who appeared to have different ideas and cultures, were all united in one area, celebrating the talents, beauty, and uniqueness of their province. It will educate me on why it is essential to involve the community and what difference cultural activities bring with pride.

For me to remain engaged with this group, I will join more Buglasan events and support the local cultures and wonders of Negros Oriental.

Because of this activity, I am more embraced by the current cultural diversity, as well as I feel more united in the community and enticed to participate in more cultural events.

Title of the Activity: International Coastal and Waterways Clean-up
    Date & Time: September 21, 5:30 am
Reflection:
On September 21 at 5:30 am, we had The International Coastal and Waterways Clean-up, which was conducted at the old GSIS building in Dumaguete when I reached. We cleaned up the local community by picking litter and debris from the environment. The intended goal of the session was to create environmental awareness and get the attendees to participate in the upkeep of the harsh environment.

I served as an active participant in the activity, which involved picking up trash and loading it onto the truck. There were a lot of other schools helping us too, like NORSU and COSCA. Overall, I do not believe I came out of the experience having acquired a new skill as such, but rather I think I benefited from a greater understanding of the value of working in a team or with the community in general.

At the beginning, I thought that clean-up was a simple task; however, the experience was more positive than I thought it would be. What was most shocking was how much garbage was picked up and just how much of a difference it made. What can be appreciated the most was the response of the one driving the truck. He was so pleased and thankful for such support and assistance, so it really was good to know that our efforts made a difference and added to the trip being even more pleasurable for the young man.

One of the individuals I witnessed was an incredible worker and inspired others with their positivity. He was cleaning so much, and that really motivated me to do the same. I found it most rewarding to witness that the cleaning was done and the trash was gone right on the spot where we took the pictures. The most difficult part was picking up and carrying the trash to the place where we cleaned.

Based on the above activity, the values expressed were mostly community service, environment, and teamwork. It highlighted the aspect of encouraging people to go for change. The experience helped me intellectually and socially by making me realize the effects of pollution around us, as well as the ability of many people to come together to effect change on their environment.

Other ways in which I could be committed to this group include engaging myself in the next cleaning events. The thing which I would like to personally change if I did the project again would be the idea of gathering more people to join in the act so that we could do much more work and perhaps cover more territory.

Because of this activity, I am more concerned about conserving the environment and encouraged to participate in community service activities or contribute towards their achievement.

Title of the Activity: Rover Night Scout Vigil
    Date & Time: October 4, 7:30 pm – 3:00 am
Reflection:
The Rover Night Scout Vigil was really an unforgettable experience. The activity took place on October 4, from 7:30 pm to 3:00 am. It was conducted at our scout camp. Attending it were new members such as me, the senior scouts, and the eagle scouts. The purpose of the session was therefore to impart the values of self-reflection, self-development, and pledge to the scout integrity.

I did not learn a new skill in a formal way, but I learned to accept that self-reflection and meditating are important and crucial, and it is time to let go of the things that will not be useful for the future.

At first, I thought the event was just going to be some sort of overnight event. Depending on the position I occupied, my expectations evolved, and as the activities occurred, I saw a new significant experience. The two that got me were the reflection while blindfolded and the burning of regrets.

There was one particular person that left a rather big impact on me, which was our mentor. All of the stories he told had a profound effect on us. That they were able to lead with not only care but also insight. The whole experience was both motivational and educational at the same time. The self-benefit of the activity that was most rewarding was the fact that people got a new chance to improve themselves and start over. The less rewarding aspect of the activity was the fact that people were faced with the reality of their mistakes.

This activity gave me a sense of responsibility for myself and the community, as well as hope and the possibility to work again. The experience affected my worldview by learning more on how to help the community and more in yourself and to others. This event taught me not to bring past negative energies into the new future, as we need to let go of all the negative energies. As for how this learning can be used in real life, it is helpful to think about personal development all the time and help others with their process.

I can be a more active member of this group by attending more of their activities, helping new members understand the essence of the values we demonstrated during the vigil. These are seeds of productivity which were evidenced by improved relations among participants, transformations gained, and rededication to the scout pride. If I had to redo the vigil, I would try to meet more chances for personal sharing and group affiliation.

Because of this activity, I am more reflective, hardworking, and bonded because of the rover scout activity.

Title of the Activity: Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run
    Date & Time: October 10, 5:00 – 10:00 am
Reflection: Here is your reflection with the requested

added: On the morning of October 10, we gathered at Rizal Boulevard for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run, a 10-kilometer run starting at 5:00 am. We passed through major streets from Rizal Boulevard, to Lee to Robinsons, then Escaño and back to Rizal Boulevard. This event was for breast cancer awareness and support, where runners of all ages and abilities came together to support a large cause. It was the intention of our team to contribute to a healthier, more united, and informed community.

In the activity, my friend and I really made a run for it. Many people within the community were involved in the event—organizers, volunteers, runners, and many others who made the run a success. People helped out as station crews, directed runners, and gave food to us throughout the course to keep the experience pleasant and efficient.

While I did not pick up a new technical skill, I felt that the endurance running and the consistency required were all skill sets that are definitely useful. As for me, I expected that the run would be somewhat difficult but still possible. However, this changed when I saw most of the older participants running faster than my friend and me. This unusual sight led us to understand that even though you are older, it isn’t an excuse not to be fit. What the older participants really showed me was that age is just a number.

One memorable person was an aged man who, next to me, calmly kept a swift pace. He was very encouraging because he showed everyone how important it is to work out regardless of age. The idea that, by finishing the run, my friend and I were helping a good cause was the most satisfying aspect of the experience. This activity incorporated factors of health, support provided to the community, and resilience.

As for the continuation of a connection with this group, I am going to attend more events, join more fun runs, offer myself for contribution in the organization process, and carry on raising awareness of the existence of breast cancer and the necessity of early diagnostics.

If I could do the project again, I would try and get even more friends and families involved to help support the cause and expand the support even further.

Because of this activity, I have a better need to stay active, support community events, especially cause-related events, so we can help better our community.

Title of the Activity: Feeding Program
    Date & Time: November 5, 2024
Reflection:
A feeding program which was set to be done for students of SIBULAN CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL was conducted on the 5th of November 2024. I was financially involved in order to assist despite missing it physically due to class. The first goal of the feeding program was to feed students who could not afford the meals that are necessary for their brain to function well in class. I felt good knowing that I was in part responsible for making each child have a good day, as I saw their happy faces in the photographs shared with us after the day.

Although I didn’t learn a new skill directly, the activity served as a way to reinforce a concept and see the effects that small actions can have on a community. At first, I thought I would just give money and be happy that I am making a difference. But there was more joy to be found in the single act of feeding children and in turn the community than I could have ever expected. The people’s smiles observed by me let me understand how a simple and small act of volunteering can change a lot.

One of the individuals who had a big influence was one of the volunteers who arranged that particular event. They provided leadership and care for each child, ensuring that each child received a meal. Probably the most fulfilling aspect of this activity was realizing that I was doing something good even though I wasn’t physically present. Seeing that I could not directly help anyone, increased my gratitude towards the volunteers.

It was driven by my values of how I wanted to be to others, especially when they are facing hardship. I hope to see the needy people being assisted one way or the other, and it strengthens me to do so whenever I can. This changed my worldview because the act of helping people is not restricted to face-to-face, but can also be financially.

For my continued participation with this group, I would like to contribute to other feeding programs in the future and also volunteer my services if I am free in the future. I would definitely be more involved in future programs and I would try to encourage my other colleagues as well to get involved.

Because of this activity, I am much more willing to participate in more community programs that encourage the promotion of positive changes regardless of their significance.

    Date & Time: November 13, 3:00 – 5:00 pm
Reflection:The Ding Ibato Dodgeball for a Cause event, held on November 13 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, was a fun and meaningful interaction where members played dodgeball for charity towards animal conservation in Dumaguete. It was held in the field near the gym. As a spectator, I was present at the game and I saw how much everyone enjoyed it and how encouraging everyone was.

Seeing how committed everyone was knowing they were playing to support a good cause was quite nice and stress-relieving. The participant players enjoyed themselves to the highest level as they supported a worthy cause through a fundraiser for animals in need. The best part that I experienced was the satisfaction flowing from the beaming faces of the team in the match and everyone was giving their very best for the benefit of the team and cause. This really opened my eyes to see that through sports, people come together to make a bigger change.

This activity captured the values of Community, Support, and Charity. It was great to see an organized event for such a noble cause. Therefore, I have gained knowledge about how ordinary activities such as sports can make a big difference. As for the future, I should and would like to continue searching for ways to contribute to events of that nature.

Due to this activity, I have learned how wonderful events are a good place to encourage positive changes.

Title of the Activity: PEP Christmas Outreach 2024
    Date & Time: November 27, 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Reflection:
The PEP Christmas Outreach 2024, held on November 27 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, was a very touching occasion, where rice and other goods were distributed among the janitors at Silliman as Christmas gifts. It was done to both express gratitude for their efforts and to provide encouragement so that the staff would feel wanted. In the activity, I was personally involved in even delivering the goods to the janitors.

I did not pick up a new technical skill, however, I was educated on gratitude and kindness. At first, I thought the event was just a token, but it interested me how much of a difference it makes to talk to the janitors. Still, their appreciation of these gifts actually made the exercise much more joyful than what I expected. The person who left the greatest impression was a janitor who was happy to be here and gave a genuine smile.

Such an experience helped me appreciate that I should be grateful, sensitive to others’ needs, and willing to be a member of a particular community. It made me understand that every little thing that one does can make a lot of difference to the other. I can still volunteer for similar outreaches in the future, possibly helping to create or participate in intending ones.

The values expressed in this activity are appreciation for what you have and always being willing to give amongst people. If I could redo the event again, I would have incorporated more people into it and shared the same with others who might also be neglected.

For this activity, I am more conscious of expressing thankfulness and appreciation to people who work in the background.

Title of the Activity: Donation Drive for Bata ng Calabnugan
    Date & Time: Dec 4, 3:00pm
Reflection:
The Donation Drive for Bata ng Calabnugan, held on December 4 at 3:00 pm, intended to bring happiness to children in the Calabnugan orphanage during Christmas time. I could not participate in the event physically; however, I was able to give 100 pesos towards the event. The organizers were incredibly committed to the cause and continued the donation time to try and get as many people to contribute as possible. This effort really impressed me and gave me the feeling of being useful in putting smiles on the children’s faces during Christmas, which was fulfilling.

While I did not get an opportunity to gain a new skill, the fact that community-initiated actions are really important stood out to me. I realized that other people can be a fantastic source of inspiration, willing to drive donations and give to people in need, even beyond the established deadline. Being aware of this helps me understand how important and desperate people can be when they are in need.

This experience convinced me even more of the need to be of assistance to other people. It was a good reminder that even if I can’t always be physically present, I can be there in spirit and through acts of kindness. It also helped me reflect on the importance of people coming together, especially when working on a job being done. Whether it’s small-scale assistance or something larger, the good feeling of touching someone’s life gives you a heartwarming sense of fulfillment.

As for the future, I’d like to continue being a part of any such outreach programs and be useful in as many ways as possible. I’m even more motivated to do whatever I can with my available resources to help enhance the lives of others. As a result of this kind of activity, I am even more interested in supporting causes that will make others happy and free from their troubles. I also feel inspired to make more efforts in community activities. Because of this activity, I am more committed to supporting causes that bring joy and relief to others.
